Hands on Handlebars

28th March 2017

PLEASE NOTE : Recent communication from CNSW.

All Commissaires, in particular Club Level 1 and 2 Commissaires.

The Technical Commission has been made aware of the increasing nature of the Contravention of CA Technical Regulation Annexure 6,  Sect 1.3.008, (Hands on Handlebars).

When racing, the riding position is to be enforced, that includes hands on handlebars, including extensions as in brake hoods and extension bars on time trial bikes.   In particular at a club race level, Commissaires are to warn members not to continue the practice of riding with either the elbows or forearms on the handlebars, if at any level the warning is not heeded then a suitable penalty can be levelled under this Regulation or Annexure 9  Item 28.

Club Commissaires are particularly requested to pay attention to any safety infringement in both racing and in warm ups at club events and be active to stamp out this particular practice.   Just because we see some professionals undertaking similar practises on our televisions doesn’t make it legal within the CA Regulations.
