About Us

Kooragang Open Cycling Club Inc. was formed in 1993 and conducts races starting at the eastern side of Kooragang Island (Greenleaf Road) each Saturday afternoon ALL year round. Races commence at approx 2.30pm and finish around 3.45 including presentations etc. Entries close 15 minutes prior to race start.

Racing Fees are $10.00 per race for seniors and $5.00 for Juniors, $2 for club juniors. Eighty percent or the race fees is paid out in prizemoney to placegetters. The remainder is retained by the Club for expenses, trophies etc. and a donation to The Saint Johns Ambulance who attend every race.

Races consist of Graded Scratch Races each Saturday except for the last Saturday of the Month which is a Handicap Race. All grades and abilities are catered for.

The Kooragang Open Cycle Club also conducts races on Easter Monday, Anzac Day, the June and October Long Weekends.

The Kooragang Club has attractive Club Clothing in distinctive colours (The Best in Newcastle). These items of clothing are available through Two Wheel Industries at very competitive prices.

Kooragang is a very social Club where you will soon feel accepted as one of the group. Fellow riders will usually give you good advice on safety, bike setup and how to improve your performance. Various Social Rides are organised throughout the year normally of 70 to 100 kms in distance with a family picnic afterwards.
Most riders train throughout the week with various groups meeting regurly at predetermined times and locations. Any rider is welcome to join in on any of these training rides.
